UDMC Sets New Standards for Princeton Chase Results With Remarkable Performance

Princeton Chase

Delaware Crew tore up Carnegie Lake this weekend leaving their mark on their competitors with results the competition will be unable to ignore. UDMC’s top two boats took on Ivy League contenders, whom they will face off with again in the spring, in the Varsity Lightweight 8+ event at the Princeton Chase. The previous fall brought hurricane sandy in, unfortunately preventing UDMC from competing in the Chase, an event in which the rowers look forward to all fall. This year long lull stirred up some competitive energy for the varsity as they headed to the course. Due to Delaware’s absence, the 1v was sent onto the course 10th and the 2v 20th. The 1v pulled a strong first 2k cruising through Dartmouth in the first 1500 and overtaking Georgetown from the inside around the large turn in the second mile, meanwhile moving on Penn through the whole 3 mile course. Fighting through the windy conditions the 1v hauled into their sprint and flew through the finish line earning them the 4th place seat behind Yale, Princeton, and Cornell. Delaware’s 2v fought through their competitors placing 6th among the other 2v’s in close contention with Navy’s 2v. Seven seat of the 1v, Russ Garrett, was heard after the finish line saying “We just woke up a beast” showing the teams fire and inspiration that they feel for the season ahead.1027LightM8043-01

The Freshmen squad raced two boats in the Chase this weekend who also represented Delaware’s competitive edge well with a 5th place finish overall, 2nd of the lightweight boats behind Penn and ahead of Harvard, Princeton, and Yale’s Lightweights. The 2f placed 1st out of the 2f competitors also ahead of Harvard and Princeton’s 2f boats.

We are proud of all our athletes for their hard work and continuing display of competitiveness among elite rowing programs. Thank you especially to the strong representation of alumni who could be heard cheering us on from Harrison Street Bridge, as well as parents and friends who came out to support us!
