UDMC Heavyweights Post Strong Results Against Rutgers and Illinois

1 min read

The Heavyweights traveled to New Brunswick, New Jersey this weekend to take on Rutgers and Illinois. No stranger to strong winds and less than ideal conditions, the Blue Hens faced 20mph tailwinds and whitecaps. Nonetheless, they were ready to race.

The first race of the day was the 2V. Delaware fought hard through the conditions and placed second to a competitive Rutgers crew. The Blue Hens finished just under 3 seconds behind Rutgers and 21 seconds ahead of Illinois.

Next up was the 1V race.  Delaware took Rutgers off the start and continued to build on their lead throughout the first half of the race.  The Blue Hens were able to hold off a charging Rutgers boat for the win.

In the final races of the day, the 1F raced Rutgers’ 3V while the 2F raced Rutgers’ 4V.  The 1F managed to beat Rutgers by just over two seconds.  The 2F rowed a hard fought race but lost to Rutgers.

Delaware’s victories over Rutgers mark the Heavyweight program’s first win over an EARC Sprints League school this year.  The heavyweights look to continue their success and build on their speed next week at Mercer Lake in the Knecht Cup.
