UDMC Summer 2014 Recap

After an unprecedented 2014 Spring racing season, the University of Delaware oarsmen took advantage of the summer to train, work, and relax. For many, the summer welcomed jobs, internships, life guarding, cross training, and rowing. All of our athletes enjoyed their respective summer endeavors, and a handful of Delaware rowers took to the water for a few more months to row for a variety of rowing clubs around the country. Current athletes and alumni of the University of Delaware Men’s Crew team were represented at seven different rowing clubs, competing at various levels of racing. In total, UDMC rowers accounted for thirteen medals at this summer’s championship regattas and earned five Club National Championship titles (results can be seen below). Rowing was not the only thing that defined the summer off-season for UDMC athletes. Alex Shoemaker successfully completed the United States Marine Corps’ Officer Candidate School and Joe Mohnack of Brigantine Beach Patrol competed in numerous lifeguard races up and down the coast of the infamous Jersey Shore. With jobs and internships in the books and summer rowing compete, all of our athletes have now returned to campus to begin classes and hit the water. The University of Delaware Men’s crew team will begin the fall racing season with an exhibition race at the Head of the Christina on Sunday, October 5.
