2 min read

IMG_1843This weekend, the Varsity and Freshmen Lightweights traveled to Washington D.C to race Georgetown Lightweights on the Potomac River. Early in the morning, Delaware’d 2nd and 3rd Varsity 8+ took on Georgetown’s 2nd varsity. In a close finish, Delaware’s 2v was able to edge out Georgetown by just under a second, with the 3v finishing behind Georgetown by approximately 8 seconds.

LateIMG_1869 (1)r in the morning, Delaware’s Frosh/Novice Lightweight 8+ showed their speed and potential for the remainder of the spring with a finish placing them over 15 seconds ahead of Georgetown’s freshmen. Congratulations freshman on your first win of the spring; a great way to open the season.

Following the freshmen, Delaware’s lightweight 1v lined up to duel Georgetown’s Lightweight 1v. The Fightin’ 150’s wasted no time off the start and quickly pulled away from Georgetown through the length of the course, crossing the finish line approximately 10 seconds ahead of Georgetown, completing the lightweight sweep. This weekend allowed the Lightweights to open their spring season with a positive and competitive spirit, and to get a good indication of their speed and capabilities.

The University of Delaware Men’s Crew team would like to thank Georgetown for hosting them on the Potomac this weekend and would also like to thank Georgetown’s coaches and officials for facilitating a fair and competitive race. We would also like to thank all of the parents, friends and alumni of UDMC for supporting our rowers at Georgetown and invite you Boston this upcoming weekend where the lightweights will take on Harvard and MIT.
