Fighting 150 VS Dartmouth Lights

This past weekend the Blue Hen’s participated in the 7th annual Delaware Vs. Dartmouth duel. For the past 7 seasons these two lightweights squads have squared off, this year Dartmouth took 3 of 4 races. The race took place at a neutral site on Lake Lillanonah in New Milford Connecticut. The course was 1900 meters and was accompanied by strong tailwinds and whitecaps in some parts. The first race to go off was the freshman lightweight 8+. In Delaware’s sole win of the day the freshman lights defeated Dartmouth for the third consecutive season by a margin of a little over 6 seats. The young Blue Hen’s clocked a 5:36.9 to the Big Green’s 5:39.4. The next race to take place was the 2v event. Dartmouth took an early lead and walked away from the Delaware JV to win by 10 seconds. In the varsity race the Blue Hen’s had the chance to compete against last years Eastern Sprint’s silver medalists. The Big Green varsity had a superior start and was able to jump out into the lead early. The Blue Hen varsity was able to stay within a few seats of the Big Green for 1000 meters but started to loose ground with 900 meters to go. Dartmouth clocked a 5:18.5 to Delaware’s 5:27.6 defeating the Blue Hen’s by 9 seconds. The last time Delaware’s varsity defeated the Big Green was in 2010. The Fighting 150 will race again next weekend against Navy and Georgetown at the Naval Academy.
