Heavyweights Post Competitive Results on the Charles
1 min readSaturday, April 26 saw the heavyweight crew face off against MIT, University of Massachusetts, and the University of Rhode Island. The race took place on the Charles River in Boston. The crews began racing early as the rain came down. The first event saw the Varsity Heavyweight Eight face URI, UMass, and MIT. They finished second behind MIT. The 1V gave a courageous effort, posting a strong time of 6:03.7, six seconds off from the MIT 1V. The next event saw the Freshmen Heavyweight Eight racing in the JV event against MIT and UMass. In a close race, the 1F finished two seconds behind MIT.
The JV Heavyweight Eight broke down into two fours, and squared off against URI. Due to an equipment failure that prevented proper steering, one of the boats was unable to finish the race. Despite this, they remained competitive before being forced to stop. The other JV four defeated URI by four seconds, and went home winners of the day. Despite losing to MIT, the Heavyweights gave a competitive showing against a Sprints level crew, and plan to return next year for a victory.
