Varsity Crews Achieve Unprecedented Results at The Head of the Charles
1 min readThis year’s Head of the Charles marked the 50th anniversary for the famous regatta. Such a monumental year for both the regatta and the rowing community called for results of the same caliber from the University of Delaware crews.
The team sent two boats up to Boston for the regatta. The Varsity Heavyweight 8 competed in the Collegiate 8 event while the Varsity Lightweight 8 competed in the Lightweight 8 event. The Heavyweight 8, in a field of 44 crews, finished in 5th place, behind Michigan, Hobart, Grand Valley, and Virginia. The top-five performance earned them the best finish in the Collegiate 8 event in Delaware Men’s Crew history. About one hour later, the Varsity Lightweight 8 took to the course to attempt to follow up with another strong race. The Lightweight 8, in a field of 27 crews, earned a 4th place finish in the Lightweight 8 event, behind Princeton, Harvard, and Cornell. The fourth place finish once again secured the best finish in the Lightweight 8 event in Delaware Men’s Crew history.
After a record setting week in Boston, the Heavyweights look forward to the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta on October 25, while the Lightweights prepare for the Princeton Chase on October 26.
