Blue Hen Rowers Compete at 130th Canadian Henley Regatta

Last week Blue Hen rowers and alumni competed at the 130th Royal Canadian Henley Regatta in St. Catharine’s, Ontario.  The regatta features clubs from all over the world and is the last race of the summer racing season. Will Purman 13′ and alumni Colin Ethridge 11′ both competed for Philadelphia’s Vesper boat club.  They competed in the Lightweight 8+ placing second behind St. Catharine’s rowing club but were victorious in the Senior Lightweight Quad event winning Henley Gold over previous years winner Ottawa Rowing Club and Argentina.  Purman also competed in the senior heavyweight 8+ event placing 3rd behind a boat from Wisconsin’s, Lake Mendota Rowing Club and California.   Also competing at the regatta was rising senior James Buckmann who competed in the u-23 quad for Philadelphia Sculling Club.  He placed 4th in a close finish behind Canadian crews from Brockville Ottawa and Peterborough.  The Blue Hen’s begin their training for the fall season as school starts August 28th.
