1 min read

This past weekend the heavyweight team travelled to New Brunswick, NJ to square off against Rutgers. The late afternoon racing took place on flat water under sunny skies with small headwinds. The racing order was 2F/3F, 1F, 1V.

In the second freshman race the Delaware 2F took on the Rutgers 2F and 3F. In a well contested race Delaware came across the line in second with the Rutgers 2F ahead and 3F behind. The Rutgers 2F finished in 6.39.0 with Delaware and Rutgers 16s and 33s back respectively. In the 1F race the Delaware freshman fought hard keeping the race extremely close for the first portion of the race before Rutgers was able to push away towards the end of the race coming across the line in 6.30.3s with Delaware 4.0s behind. In the last race of the evening the Delaware Rutgers 1Vs took to the Raritan River. In this race Rutgers took the lead from the start but Delaware narrowed the lead to half a length and was pushing back into the race. However, the Delaware boat struck a buoy and lost all momentum. After this, Rutgers was once again able to push away from Delaware and came across the line in a time of  6.14.2 with Delaware 8.0s behind.

The heavyweights will return to regatta type competition this weekend racing the Knecht Cup alongside their lightweight counterparts.
