Blue Hens Celebrate Strong Fall Season as Alumni Set Course Record At Head of the Charles

1 min read

Four University of Delaware Men’s Crew recent alumni rowers who have been
training for the USA national team got together with Coach Tristan Snow, as
coxswain, to crush the course record in the Alumni 4+ event at the Head of the Charles Regatta. The Blue Hens finished well ahead by 20.92 seconds over the second
place Cornell boat.

Season recap for Blue Hen lightweights:

The lightweight first varsity boat had a very successful month of October. Starting
off with the Navy Day Regatta the light 1V placed 4th with a time of 11:28:73.

The lights then returned to Fairmount Park in Philadelphia, finishing 6th place out
of 35 total in the Head of the Schuylkill regatta with a time of 11:50:363.

Heavies win at Head of the Occoquan:

In a strong race, the heavyweight squad at Delaware in November, perform well at
the Head of the Occoquan. As the team trekked the long road to Virginia, speed
was the only thing on their mind. The Varsity 8 and the Novice 8 won gold medals.
The Frosh 4 also won silver medals. This was a very exciting start to propel them
into winter training.

Another promising development that occurred during the fall semester is the sheer
number of walk-ons that have joined UDMC. A total of 12 athletically gifted walk-
ons became part of the heavyweight squad. These new athletes have promise and
have been working hard. The team continues to be excited by additional walk-ons
who some day may also win medals and set course records at large national
regattas. The team eagerly awaits the spring season.
