1 min readCongratulations to the University of Delaware Men’s Crew (UDMC) on their outstanding performances at the 2023 Jefferson Dad Vail Regatta! The UDMC Lightweight Varsity Four, consisting of Josh Lampa, Nick Antrim, Owen Spahr, Justin Schmidt, and coxswain Kaitlyn Sill, demonstrated their dominance by winning the gold medal in the grand final. Their remarkable time of 6 minutes and 39 seconds secured their victory over other medalists Fairfield and Fordham, with Mercyhurst finishing in fourth place.
Another noteworthy achievement came from the UDMC Adaptive Inclusive PR3 Double team, comprised of Will Beardwood, who has limited use of his right side, and Ralph Wilkinson, an able-bodied rower. They showcased their skill and determination, winning a gold medal in their event. Channel 10 NBC news even covered their inspiring story leading up to the regatta.
The UDMC Freshman Novice Eight put up a commendable performance, finishing in fourth place in the Grand Final. Additionally, the UDMC Varsity Four qualified for the Petite Final and finished in fifth place among a competitive field of 27 entries. The UDMC Varsity Eight claimed victory in the C Final. The regatta also saw the participation of the UDMC Freshman Four, with 26 entries, and the UDMC Varsity Double, featuring 15 entries.
The University of Delaware Men’s Crew extends their gratitude to all the competitors and event organizers who contributed to the success of the regatta, held on the Cooper River in New Jersey. The Blue Hens have undoubtedly showcased their talent, determination, and teamwork throughout the competition.
