Blue Hens Prepare For Fall Racing

1 min read

All four squads raced at the Head of the Christina in the Men’s Collegiate 8+ exposition this fall,
fine tuning some of the speed both teams are cultivating leading up to the Navy Day Regatta.
The victorious crew was the Heavyweight first Varsity, with the lightweight class of 2017 8+
coming in second. These two crews were followed by the lightweight class of 2019 8+,
Heavyweight second Varsity, two freshman lightweight 8+s, and the Heavyweight third and
fourth Varsity.

The Head of the Christina is the first head race of the fall, and serves to showcase some of the
speed Delaware’s crews have been building over the last month of putting in meters on both the
ergo and the water. Talented 8s are boating up across the varsity and frosh squads, all of which
will see action at Navy Day in Philadelphia on October 15 th . The Blue Hens hope to see the same success as years previous, with the Lightweights looking to repeat their first place finish in the Men’s Open/Collegiate Lightweight 8+ event, and the Heavyweights looking to follow up and improve on their 7 th place finish amongst a strong field featuring Temple, Syracuse, The Naval Academy, Drexel and Penn in the Men’s Open/Collegiate 8+. This will be the first race amongst other programs of the fall, and UDMC is anxious to race against some talented crews before the centerpiece of fall racing, the Head of the Charles in Boston on October 22nd and 23rd .
