Hens Complete Another Week Of Racing

2 min read

The Hens of both the lightweight and heavyweight variety continued to roll through the spring racing season with the lights racing the Kerr Cup in Philadelphia, and the heavies racing at SIRAs in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Both squads saw success this weekend against stiff competition and stiff headwinds.

The Lightweight squad raced a variety of events at the Kerr Cup, including two Varsity 4+ entries, First, Second, and Third Varsity Eights, along with a Freshman Eight. The first Varsity 4+ entry competed well in a tough heat but did not advance to the final. The Varsity B 4+ placed second in their heat and then went on to place third in the final, congratulations to the senior oarsmen. The Men’s Third Varsity 8 placed third behind crews from Drexel and St Joe’s in a straight final. The Second Varsity 8 handily won their heat in the morning and then went on to win the Grand Final in the afternoon, congratulations! The First Varsity placed second in their heat behind a crew from St. Joe’s, advancing to the Grand Final where they placed fourth among crews from Drexel, St. Joe’s, and Michigan. Last but certainly not least, the Freshman 8 placed second in their heat by a slim margin, advancing to the final where they would place second. Well rowed by all crews this weekend, the fightin’ 150s now turn towards their race with Navy and Harvard in Boston this coming weekend.

The heavyweight team traveled down to Melton Hill Lake in Oak Ridge, TN this past weekend, with both a Varsity and JV Eight, and Varsity 4 entered. Each crew raced a time trial to determine which race they would advance to. The JV 8+ posted the fastest time in their time trial, advancing to the semifinal. The Varsity posted the fifth fastest time in their event, good for a spot in the semifinal as well. Lastly, the Varsity 4+ placed 16th and also moved on to the semifinal. The JV placed first in their semi on Saturday, advancing them to the final later that day, where they placed second behind a tough crew from FIT, congratulations to all oarsmen. The Varsity placed second in their semi, moving on to the Grand Final, where they placed 6th, well rowed. The Varsity 4+ placed fourth in their semi, which earned them a spot in the B final, where they placed 6th, congratulations to all crews.
