Hens Start the Spring Season
2 min readThe Delaware 150’s started off the sprints season strong with a sweep of very quick crews from Georgetown University this past Saturday at Lake Carnegie in Princeton, NJ. The First Varsity 8+ kicked off the season with a fast time and some crisp bladework showcased on just about every oarsman’s Instagram. The Second Varsity 8+ capped off a strong race with a stronger sprint in the final meters to move through Georgetown for the victory. The Third Varsity 8+ race included both the Fourth and Fifth Varsity 8+ crews from Delaware. The race ended with both the Third and Fourth Varsity Eights from Delaware besting Georgetown’s 3V, with all crews rowing well. The Lightweights are anxious to continue to cultivate some speed and precision with the blades over spring break as they look forward to racing The University of Pennsylvania this weekend on the Schuylkill in Philadelphia.
The Delaware Heavyweight squad raced this past weekend in Philadelphia at the 35th Murphy Cup Regatta, with entries in the Varsity 8+, Junior Varsity 8+, and the Varsity 4+. The Varsity 8 placed second in their heat, advancing to the Petite Final where they placed first. The Junior Varsity 8 placed well in their heat, advancing to the Grand Final, where they placed first among crews from Saint Joseph’s University, The University of Virginia, and Drexel University. The Varsity 4+ raced well in a heat featuring competitive boats from Washington College and UVa, Congratulations to all crews! This upcoming weekend, the Heavyweight squad will travel to Virginia to race the Occoquan Sprints, best of luck to all crews.
The Heavyweight First and Second Varsity also raced the weekend prior against Lehigh and Loyola on the Schuylkill in Philadelphia, placing first in both events by a large margin over the field.
